'....there's something timeless about these images, and yet they have such a modern feel to them too. I've given some to friends and they loved them. Now I can't wait to see the next series, how exciting!......'
Julia Binfield, Milano ' ....Colin Cuthbert's series of prints based on kitchen utensils are intriguing in their ambiguity of reading, sitting as they do between representations of simple, ordinary objects and their abstract qualities. The flat, circular shape and surface texture of a cake base or flan tin become strange cosmic forms, emerging from their dark backgrounds and floating in space. Other images of cutting and grating implements are transformed into totemic objects of ritual.......'
Dave Barden, (Painter), Hexham, Northumberland '....I love the idea that such sophisticated images have been created using everyday objects...
So incredibly realistic. My grandmother's parsley-chopper, which would still be so very useful.....' '....mi piace l'idea che immagini cosi ricercate siano state realizzate con oggetti di uso quotidiano...Impressionnant de realisme. Le moulin a persil de ma grand-mere qui peut presque encore me servir.....' Carla & Fred eric Soffiotti, Sospel, France |
'....refurbishing our kitchen we were looking for the appropriate focus piece to elevate the final result. Colin's intruiging photograph of a slightly rusty colander on a pale celedon background was the perfect finishing touch. It gives us great pleasure everyday....we love it....'
Simon and Marj Taylor, Northumberland '....we were really impressed by these pieces and the elegance of what are essentially, prosaic subjects! Our print of the 'flan tray' has prompted much discussion among dinner guests and we are pleased to recommend Colin to them all.....'
John and Carol Pease, Dunns, Scottish Borders '....I love the ambiguity of these images. I have looked for hours at 'Flan Tin' wondering could it be some dark star and at 'Enamel Plate' looking like some ancient Greek sgraffito.....'
